Which Samsung ML-5017 driver should I choose?

Basic drivers are model-specific. The PCL6 driver is 30.1 MB, the PostScript driver is 28.1 MB, and the XPS driver is 29.7 MB and covers Windows 7 only. The No Installer package is 34.0 MB. Universal Print Driver packages are generic drivers for IT-managed setups; the main Windows one is 38.5 MB. Utilities handle settings, status and network addressing. The firmware file is 38.1 MB, so update it only to fix a specific problem, and read the Release Note first.

The basic drivers cover the ML-451x and 501x series, and the firmware file covers the ML-5015ND and 5017ND. Samsung Easy Printer Manager combines device settings and status monitoring in one place. HP lists Windows 11 support for the Universal Print Driver and utilities, but not the basic drivers.

How to install the Samsung ML-5017 driver

1. Download ML-451x, 501x Series Print Driver PCL6 (30.1 MB) from this page.
2. Open the downloaded file on a Windows 10 or Windows 7 PC.
3. Follow the installer prompts until the installation finishes.
4. For a network printer, run Samsung Set IP first to assign an address using the MAC address.

Samsung ML-5017 driver troubleshooting

The PC cannot find the printer on the network

Run Samsung Set IP (1.5 MB) and assign an address using the printer's MAC address. Then reinstall the driver and try again. Restarting the printer and the PC also clears many connection faults.

Pages print faint, streaky or blank

Check the printer's supplies and reseat them as the printer manual describes. Replace anything that is empty or worn. Then print a test page to compare results.

Easy Printer Manager fails on Windows 10

Install Samsung Easy Printer Manager version 2.00.01.36 (28.7 MB). HP lists it as the release that fixed a Windows 10 RS4 compatibility issue.

The ML-451x, 501x Series Print Driver PCL6 supports Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 10 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit. HP does not offer it for Windows 11.

Is there a Windows 11 option for the Samsung ML-5017?

HP lists Windows 11 for the Samsung Universal Print Driver (38.5 MB), Set IP and Easy Printer Manager. The model-specific basic drivers cover Windows 10 and Windows 7 only.
