print jobs stuck is a frustrating problem. “I clicked cancel, but the job just sits there saying Deleting.” If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. The queue can hold a damaged job or wait for a printer connection that no longer exists. Repeatedly pressing Print usually creates more stuck jobs, so pause and clear the queue first.
print jobs stuck: quick checks
- Make sure the printer is powered on and has no paper jam, open cover, ink, toner, or cartridge warning.
- Check whether the problem affects printing, scanning, USB, Wi-Fi, or all of them.
- Use the full model name, including letters at the end. Similar model numbers do not guarantee the same driver.

print jobs stuck fixes to try in order
- 1. Close the app you printed from so it stops sending the same job again.
- 2. Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners, choose the printer, and open its queue. Cancel all pending jobs.
- 3. If jobs remain, open Services, stop Print Spooler, clear only the files inside the Windows spool PRINTERS folder, and start Print Spooler again.
- 4. Send a one-page test document. If that works, the original file or application may be the problem.
- 5. If the queue fills again immediately, check the selected port and reinstall the exact printer entry rather than deleting unrelated drivers.
What not to do
Do not download a mystery “driver updater,” install a package for a similar model, or delete every printer driver from an office computer. Those shortcuts can turn one broken queue into several. If a step needs administrator access, make sure you understand what it changes first.
How to tell where the problem is
- A Windows test page works: the driver and connection are probably usable; check the original app or document.
- The printer web page opens but printing fails: focus on the Windows queue, port, and driver.
- Nothing can reach the printer: solve the cable or network connection before reinstalling software.
- Only scanning fails: check the scanner driver and scanning utility separately from the print driver.

Still stuck?
If print jobs stuck is still happening, write down the exact message, Windows version, connection type, and what changed just before the problem started. “Driver is unavailable after Windows Update on USB” is far more useful than “printer broken.” You can also review our Windows 11 printer driver installation guide and printer driver installation error guide.
