How to install the Canon PIXMA E480 driver
Canon’s own steps for the full driver package:
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

Canon PIXMA E480 driver troubleshooting
Windows does not detect the printer over USB
Plug the USB cable straight into the PC, not a hub. Try another port or cable. Turn the printer off and on, then restart the PC and run the MP Drivers Ver. 1.02 installer again.
The installer stops partway on Windows
Close other installers and open programs, then restart the PC. Right-click the downloaded file and choose Run as administrator. Check that your Windows version appears in the file's system list before you try again.
The scanner does not appear on a Mac
The CUPS printer driver covers printing only. Install the ICA scanner driver separately: Ver. 5.0.0 for macOS 13, 12 and 11, or Ver. 4.1.3a for macOS 10.15 and older. Then reconnect the printer.

Pick MP Drivers Ver. 1.02 for full printing and scanning support. The Full Driver & Software Package Ver. 1.1 (22 Mar 2016) is an online installer for USB or network setup. The XPS driver Ver. 5.85 is optional.
Which macOS versions does each printer driver cover?
CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 16.70.0.0 covers macOS 13, 12 and 11. Ver. 16.40.1.0 covers macOS 10.15 down to Mac OS X v10.7. Choose the one that matches your Mac.
What is the Windows security patch?
Version 1.0.2 fixes a folder vulnerability in installed printer drivers. Without it, other users can access and replace the folder. The 11 Dec 2024 file covers Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 to 2025. A separate 2021 file covers Windows 7.
Does Canon offer separate 64-bit Windows drivers?
Canon lists x64 support separately for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and Vista in MP Drivers Ver. 1.02. Windows 11 and Windows XP appear once, without an x64 label. The XPS driver does not list XP.
