How to install the Canon PIXMA G4000 driver
Canon’s own steps for the full driver package:
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

Canon PIXMA G4000 driver troubleshooting
My computer does not detect the printer over USB.
Plug the USB cable straight into the computer, not a hub. Try another cable and port. Turn the printer off and on, then run the driver installer again. Connect the cable only when the installer asks for it.
The installation stops partway through.
Close all other programs and restart the computer. Pause your antivirus while you install. On Windows, right-click the installer and run it as administrator. Download the file again if it still stops, since a damaged download can fail.
The scanner does not appear on my Mac.
The CUPS Printer Driver handles printing only. Install the ICA Driver Ver.5.0.1 to scan on macOS 11 through 27. Windows users get scanning from the G4000 MP Drivers, so they need no separate scan file.

Which file should I download for Windows?
Pick G4000 MP Drivers Ver.1.02. It covers printing and scanning on Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and Vista, including x64 editions. The XPS Printer Driver Ver.6.06a is optional and adds 16-bit-per-colour printing.
Which files do I need on a Mac?
Install the CUPS Printer Driver Ver.30.10.1.0 for printing and the ICA Driver Ver.5.0.1 for scanning. Both cover macOS 11 through 27. Older systems, macOS 10.8 to 10.15, use CUPS Ver.24.30.0.0 and ICA Ver.4.3.4a.
What is the Windows security patch?
Canon says the patch fixes a folder vulnerability in installed printer drivers. Ver.1.0.2 (11 Dec 2024) covers Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 through 2025. A separate Ver.1.0.2 file covers Windows 7 and 7 x64.
Does Canon still offer the older Full Driver & Software Package?
Yes. The Windows package, Ver.1.0 from 07 Nov 2016, covers Windows Vista through 10, with x64 editions. Mac versions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 cover OS X 10.8 through macOS 10.15. Newer systems should use the drivers above.
