How to install the Canon PIXMA G1000 driver
Canon’s own steps for the full driver package:
- Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
- Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

Canon PIXMA G1000 driver troubleshooting
Windows does not detect the G1000 after I connect the USB cable
Turn the printer on before you connect the cable. Try another USB port and a different cable. Plug it in directly, not through a hub. If Windows still shows an unknown device, run the G1000 series Printer Driver Ver.2.91 installer again.
The installer stops partway through on Windows
Close other programs and restart the PC. Then run the installer again as administrator. If it still stops, unplug the USB cable first and connect it only when the installer asks. Apply the security patch if your system needs it.
My Mac does not show the G1000 or the scanner
The G1000 is a printer only. It has no scanner, so no scan software exists for it. If the Mac does not list the printer, remove it in Printers & Scanners, then install CUPS Driver Ver.16.91.0.0 and add it again.

Which driver should I download for Windows?
Pick the G1000 series Printer Driver Ver.2.91. It covers Windows 11 down to Windows XP. The XPS Printer Driver Ver.5.91 is optional and adds 16-bit per colour printing. It does not cover Windows XP.
Which macOS versions does the newest Mac driver support?
The CUPS Printer Driver Ver.16.91.0.0 supports macOS 11 through macOS 27. For macOS 10.15 and older, Canon lists the CUPS Driver Ver.16.40.1.0 or the Full Driver & Software Package. Pick the one that matches your version.
What is the Windows security patch?
The Windows Printers and Multifunction Printers security patch Ver.1.0.2 fixes a folder vulnerability in installed printer drivers. Without it, other users can access and replace the driver folder. The 2024 file covers Windows 8.1 and later. A separate 2021 file covers Windows 7.
Does Canon list Linux drivers for the G1000?
No. Canon lists no Linux files, Debian or RPM packages, for this printer. The downloads cover only Windows and macOS. The Windows Full Driver & Software Package from 2016 is the largest file at 48.05 MB.
