How to install the Canon PIXMA iP2870S driver
Canon’s own steps for the full driver package:
- Click the link, select [ Save ], specify "Save As", then click [ Save ] to download the file.
- The downloaded file will be saved in the specified place in the self-extracting form (.exe format ).
- Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

Canon PIXMA iP2870S driver troubleshooting
The computer does not detect the printer
Turn the printer on and connect the USB cable directly to the computer. Try a different USB port. Restart both devices. If the printer still does not appear, reinstall the driver that matches your operating system.
The installation stops partway through
Close other installers and restart the computer. Run the file again as administrator on Windows. The Full Driver & Software Package is an online installer, so check that your internet connection works before you retry.
I cannot find a scanner driver
The iP2800S series downloads list only printer drivers and a full software package. Canon provides no scanner driver for this model. Install the printer driver for your operating system and print from there.

Which Windows file should I pick?
Pick Printer Driver Ver. 2.75 for most PCs. It covers Windows 11 back to XP. The XPS Printer Driver Ver. 5.75 covers Windows 11 back to Vista. The Full Package Ver. 2.1 handles first-time setup over USB or network.
Which driver works on a Mac?
Use CUPS Printer Driver Ver.16.70.0.0 for macOS 12 and macOS 11. Use Ver.16.40.1.0 for macOS 10.15 back to Mac OS X v10.7. The older Full Package Ver.1.2 covers macOS v10.12 back to v10.7.
What is the Windows security patch?
Version 1.0.2 fixes a folder vulnerability in printer drivers installed on a PC. Without it, others can access and replace the folder. The 11 Dec 2024 release covers Windows 11, 10, 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 through 2025. Windows 7 has its own 2021 release.
Do I need a 32-bit or 64-bit file?
Canon lists the same Windows driver for both 32-bit and x64 editions of Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 and Vista. Windows Server versions in the security patch list are x64 only, except Windows Server 2022 and 2025, which Canon lists without a label.
